Join our team of expert birding guides in areas located very close to the quaint town of Puerto Varas.
Our birding day will start at sunrise exploring the area around the Maullín River. Look out for the Grassland Yellow-finch, Ringed Kingfisher, raptors and the very interesting Rufous-tailed Plantcutter. Later on, we’ll tread off the beaten path to the Natural Reserve Lahuen Ñadi, the last patch of Alerce (Fitzrroya cupressoide) of the valley. Here, we’ll inmerse ourselves through the thick forest looking for the elusive Tapaculos and some specialties of this unique ecosystem, for example, the White-throated Treerunner and the Thorn-tailed Rayadito.
While we’ll be crossing agricultural fields and grasslands, we’ll be spotting different species as the Des Mur Wiretail, Long-tailed Meadowlark, the endemics Chilean Mockingbird and Slender-billed Parakeet. Likewise, we should be spotting the Tufted-tit Tyrant and the Fire-eyed Diucon.
Our morning will conclude with the exploration of a wetland in Llanquihue. Here, we can spot waterfowls and two great species as the Many-coloured Rush-Tyrant and the Spectacled Tyrant. This urban wetland is currently under a process of recovery and natural restoration in which our team is fully involved.
