The Kayak excursion in the Eberhard Fjord is a half-day activity which begins in the town of Puerto Prat, about 30 minutes in car from Puerto Natales. Once we arrive to Puerto Prat, customers are received in an old but warm house of 1909 by its own owners, who have lived there, their entire lives for several generations. In this place we change our clothes for a special suit to do the excursion and leave the things we will not occupy in a safe place.
Before you start rowing, the guides will give a safety talk to the participants. The kayaking experience consists of being able to navigate the historic Eberhard Fjord from Puerto Prat to Puerto Consuelo passing through Kruger Island (Island of the Dead) as long as the weather conditions allow it. During the paddling, sometimes is possible to contemplate the birds that inhabit the fjord and its surroundings.
During the excursion a 40-minute walk is made approximately to visit the viewpoints of the area, at which time we pause to have our snack with a hot tea. The route is variable; therefore, the guides decide the layout of the navigation prioritizing safety based on climatic and marine conditions of the moment.
When we return to the house at Puerto Prat, a typical meal /afternoon snack of the region will be waiting for us, which consists of freshly fried bread, homemade jams from the season (calafate, currant, raspberry, rhubarb or rosehip), butter, scrambled eggs, coffee, tea and milk.
